I was honored when Jamie of J for Jamie reached out to ask for help with photographing an upcoming event at Sift Dessert Bar in San Francisco for July’s Blog Party. I met her earlier this year at Nanette’s Galentine’s Day tea party and had briefly chatted about the events. The vision behind every Blog Party is simple — to provide an opportunity for bloggers of all stripes to meet and mingle while allowing creative companies to connect with a global audience. I loved the idea of an intimate networking event where you’re not just another business card at the end of the day. During the event last Thursday, I overheard all sorts of meaningful conversations between friends and likeminded strangers sharing ideas and similar interests over some delicious treats and vino.
As much as I love socializing and meeting new people, when I’m with a camera, I love being invisible. I find myself frequently reminding the party-goers that it’s completely okay to ignore the camera as I weave between the crowd to find the best frame for a candid shot. Through this experience, I’ve learned so much about event photography and working with the challenges of being in a tight space and under various lighting. I really enjoyed documenting the night and even the post-production process with Lightroom taught me so much about the power of editing. With every project, there are more and more things I learn to keep in mind for next time.
Aside from the lovely ladies at Sift Dessert Bar providing the sweet treats and venue, Hall Wines supplied the party with amazing wine pairings and many other great companies came together to sponsor this event: Zico Premium Coconut Water, Baggu, OPI, Whistle, Public, Bare Minerals, Pennie Post and DHC! I am looking forward to contributing the future events as the official photographer, you can check out all the photos from the event on the Blog Party website.
