Visiting Chicago in the winter was a completely different experience than the last time I was there in the summer. It was only for a few days, but I celebrated the New Year by the Navy Pier watching the beautiful fireworks show after a late dinner at Sunda (the best Asian fusion I’ve ever had!) with Cheuk.
We spent some family time playing Scrabble (I was crushed) on New Year’s day and explored around downtown Chicago the day after. We headed to the Museum Campus to go see the Adler Planetarium and fell in love with the frosty view of Lake Michigan! I was so stunned to see the prettiest blue waters and the thin layer of ice formed above it. In California, it’s rare to see things like that because our winters are mild and snowing in the Bay Area is almost unheard of.
I was also excited to see some snow (yes, I’ve been deprived of the real winter experience) after our hilarious improv-based sketch comedy show, Apes of Wrath, at The Second City. Although I’ve only had two full days to spend in Chicago, I felt like we made good use of the time. Starting the year with lots of new experiences and memories to cherish, I’d say this is a damn good start to 2015!
