Willy is our family dog, he’s a one-and-a-half year old Bichon Frise who’s mostly calm with sporadic moments of energetic outbursts. It’s not uncommon for him to be perfectly tame all day and spend a good, solid ten-minutes running around our coffee table at 11 o’clock in the evening for no apparent reason.
My parents were against the idea of having a dog for a long time and it took me almost 10 years to convince them that it was time to reconsider. Since I’m allergic to dogs, we decided that a hypoallergenic dog would be our best bet and I couldn’t resist an opportunity to add a cuddly, fluff ball to our family! I love that he always looks like he’s smiling and after a long day, it’s so nice to come home, open the door and be greeted by this little creature fiercely wagging his tails in excitement to see me.
When Willy joined our family, I feel like we’ve gained so much more than just a pet or another mouth to feed. He brings our family together as we all love to spend more time in the living room watching him play and chatting about our day. He also teaches me how to be more patience and empathetic as trying to communicate with an animal is a lot harder than I had imagined.
I look forward to many more days to spend with Willy, taking him to the park and watching him cuddle up next to me in bed. These are the little things I had not imagined to bring our family so much joy, love and satisfaction.
